2023 Trade Delegation to Northeastern Africa and Taiwan Week in Egypt

The "2023 Trade Delegation to Northeastern Africa and Taiwan Week Egypt," organized by the International Trade Administration and organized by TAITRA, took place from September 4th to September 16th. The trade delegation targeted four countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Egypt, and Algeria. It involved 10 Taiwanese companies from various industries such as automotive parts, mechanical components, and electronic products, engaging with 316 buyers in 536 on site and online meetings to pursue business sales amounting to 12.3 million USD, and both online and offline meetings were conducted in a lively atmosphere.

TAITRA highlighted that the "2023 Trade Delegation to Northeastern Africa" specifically ventured into the largest market in Northern Africa, Egypt, for sales expansion. This delegation, being the first post-pandemic visit to Egypt, not only included meetings but also featured the inaugural " Taiwan Week Egypt " event. The event was opened by Director Michael Yeh of the Taipei Trade Center in Cairo, and featured presentations by Egyptian electric vehicle company EV Electrified Egypt and water treatment company Soul Water Company. They shared insights into the current industrial situation in Egypt and their experiences collaborating with Taiwanese businesses. During the trade meetings, promotional videos of Taiwanese products and the halal industry were showcased. Additionally, a Taiwan tea culture experience zone was set up, offering Egyptian participants the chance to sample Taiwanese products such as King Car Brown Coffee, pearl milk tea, and pineapple cakes with halal certification, receiving positive feedback and attracting the renowned chef from Kamala restaurant.

The Taiwan Week Egypt and trade meetings drew over 15 major enterprises and groups, including El Sewedy Group, a conglomerate engaged in smart solutions, electronic products, cables, public engineering, and infrastructure investments. El Sewedy Group expressed admiration for the Taiwanese delegation's water purifiers, efficient water heaters, and mobile energy storage boxes. Gotex&Gotech, a specialized agent for textile machinery equipment and accessories, expressed interest in venturing into water treatment projects and showed particular interest in Taiwanese mechanical components such as pumps. Other notable participants included Inde Group, a leader in tricycles, motorcycles, and automotive parts; GMC, a well-known manufacturer of home appliances and electronics; the procurement department of Nissan Motors; and the trade department under Orascom Group, led by Egypt's wealthiest individual. Numerous exchanges took place during the event, with several Egyptian businesses expressing interest in continued collaboration and actively discussing details for future cooperation. Many Egyptian participants expressed joy at having face-to-face meetings with the Taiwanese delegation again and expressed hope for strengthened cooperation in the future, creating more business opportunities.

The "2023 Trade Delegation to Northeastern Africa" received significant attention from public associations and the business community in countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and Algeria. Executives from organizations like the Federation of Enterprises in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the East African Entrepreneurs Association, and the Algerian Business and Industrial Union personally attended the negotiations. Luo Qingrong, Head of the Representative Office in South Africa, expressed enthusiasm for the rapid growth of the African market and welcomed Taiwanese businesses to engage in more exchanges and expand business opportunities. Multiple large scale buyers attended meetings at each station, including Akinet Group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ruperia Group and Mukano Group in Uganda, and Madar Group, a large holding company in Algeria. They all expressed admiration for the products showcased by the delegation, including water treatment equipment, pumps, energy-saving devices, creating a vibrant atmosphere during the event.
